The sight was as macabre as it was sickening, as workers found at least 25 dead cats stuffed into plastic bags and hanging from trees in Yonkers on Thursday.
“Many of these cats were already decomposed, where there was only a skull or a skeleton and then you had some fresher ones where they had only been there three days,” said Ernie Lungaro, director of humane law enforcement at the SPCA and a former NYPD lieutenant.

Yonkers police flooded the area moments after the discovery, officials said.
Necropsies are scheduled to determine what killed the cats.
